Anschütz integrates Teledyne SevenCs S-100 tech for navigation

Anschütz reports that it is integrating Teledyne SevenCs’ hydrographic data processing technology into its SYNAPSIS (W)ECDIS NX navigation system as the industry moves towards the IHO S-100 standard.

The two German maritime technology companies have been working together on the integration, with Teledyne SevenCs’ Nautilus Kernel providing the technical basis for S-100 data processing.

S-100 introduces a wider range of dynamic data sources to electronic navigation, including high-resolution bathymetry, changing water levels and surface currents. Anschütz will combine this information with vessel sensor inputs and vessel-specific parameters within SYNAPSIS to provide navigators with a single operational picture.

Depth information can be evaluated against vessel draught and safety settings, while water level updates are incorporated into safety-related calculations and current information can be used for route assessment and manoeuvring.

“SYNAPSIS ECDIS NX and WECDIS NX are designed to support the transition to the IHO S 100 standard,” said Matthias Grote, Product Manager for SYNAPSIS software at Anschütz.

“S 100 brings a significant increase in available data. The important question is how this data is handled within the navigation system and how it supports the navigator in each situation.”

The integration is intended to reduce the need for navigators to manually interpret information from multiple data sources by presenting S-100 data within a structured navigation environment.
