Dualog has moved its internal messaging and file sharing from Slack and Teams to Workspace, the ship-shore collaboration platform it recently introduced to shipping companies.
For the past three months, the company’s offices in Tromsø, Hamburg, Singapore and Athens have used Workspace for day-to-day communication, with each office configured as a ‘vessel’ and support, operations and finance operating as shore teams.
The setup allows Dualog to test the platform using the same structure it provides to shipping fleets, including channels and access based on vessels, crews and shore teams.
Workspace automatically groups users by ship, rank and rotation, while integration with crew management systems can grant and revoke access as crews change.
In its first month of internal use, Dualog staff sent almost 30,000 messages, including 7,000 in channels, and shared more than 600 files across web, desktop and mobile.
Since June, the company says it has made more than 200 improvements to Workspace, including changes to improve reliability on poor connections, a native mobile application and an admin analytics dashboard.
“Using Workspace to run our own company has been the fastest way to make it better,” said Mikael Johannessen, Product Manager for Workspace at Dualog.
“We put every new feature to work across our own crews and shore teams first, so we learn from real use before we roll it out.”
Each user has a single secure identity rather than a shared login, with Dualog positioning the feature as central to meeting IMO and IACS identity and access requirements.
Chat, the first Workspace service, is now open for early access, with file sharing, maritime email and a native AI assistant planned to follow.
