Lloyd’s Register (LR) has launched LR RouteFlex, an application that uses metocean data to help containership operators optimise stowage by route leg and respond to changes in voyage plans.
The application applies weather-dependent factors to individual routes, allowing operators to optimise stowage stack by stack and leg by leg rather than relying on assumptions covering an entire voyage.
RouteFlex can recalculate these factors when a voyage changes and assess the impact on existing stowage arrangements. Its route deviation function supports reassessment after diversions, while route splitting allows individual voyage legs to be optimised separately.
“Optimal stowage is no longer just about maximising capacity. It is about flexibility, resilience and the ability to adapt safely when conditions change,” said Nick Gross, Global Containerships Segment Director, Lloyd’s Register.
“In today’s operating environment, route changes can occur with little warning. LR RouteFlex allows operators to understand the implications of those changes immediately, helping them make informed decisions while ensuring cargo remains within safe operational limits.”
“The application moves stowage planning beyond static assumptions and closer to the realities of modern container shipping.”
RouteFlex can operate as a standalone application, through LR’s LashRightUX software or integrated with approved third-party lashing software. It supports both online and offline operation for onboard crews and shore-based teams.
