Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Hyundai Global Service (HGS) have completed a joint development project (JDP) with classification society ABS, covering simulation and modelling of vessel carbon footprints, incorporating energy efficiency technologies, LNG bunkering analysis and other smart systems.
The JDP included simulation of the carbon footprint of a Very Large Crude Carrier, analysing carbon emissions to assess the potential impact of optimised energy efficiency technologies and studying the available LNG bunkering options.
Following the results of the project, ABS has issued Approval in Principle (AIP) to HGS for its Hi4S (Hyundai Intelligent Smart Solution Service System), which provides AI-powered fleet monitoring and performance analysis.
“ABS, HHI and HGS are together shaping the future of the marine and offshore industries with a series of trailblazing projects that will deliver practical benefits for operators and advance the sustainability of shipping,” said Patrick Ryan, ABS Senior Vice President, Global Engineering and Technology.
“To achieve the IMO’s ambitious sustainability goals, a broad focus across decarbonisation and digitalisation is required. This project combines these essential elements.”
