Engine developer WinGD is launching a new range of digital systems to assist vessel operators to improve the energy efficiency of their engines and to facilitate those looking to transition to new fuels, as part of an integrated ‘ecosystem’ of offerings for maritime decarbonisation.
The new tools include fuel flexibility and smart engine monitoring technologies, which can be combined with electronic control and hybrid energy management systems.
Underlying the new offerings is WinGD’s Integrated Digital Expert (WiDE), an engine monitoring and optimisation system that comes as standard on all medium and large bore WinGD engines, which is linked to WinGD’s Integrated Control Electronics (WiCE) service.
“Our ecosystem approach to energy efficiency acknowledges that vessels today are complex power systems with the main engine at the heart of the integrated solution,” said Klaus Heim, CEO, WinGD.
“These systems, including our engines, are fully ready for the future fuels that will take ships much further than IMO’s target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2050.”
