ClassNK reports that it has issued its first type approval certificates under the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) new Unified Requirements for cyber resilience.
The new certificates have been issued to a Cargo Monitoring System (CMS) from Rosemount Tank Radar, as well as the K-Chief, K-Safe, K-Steering and AutoChief 600 products from Kongsberg Maritime.
ClassNK carried out an examination of the products based on the new rules and, upon confirming that they comply with the prescribed requirements, issued type approval certificates.
IACS has created two Unified Requirements (UR), UR E26 for ships and UR E27 for onboard systems and equipment, to act as minimum standards for resilience to reduce the occurrence and mitigate the effects of cyber incidents. The URs have been applied to new ships contracted for construction from July 2024.
ClassNK has incorporated these requirements into the relevant sections covering computer systems in its ‘Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships’, and also updated its ‘Guidance for the Approval and Type Approval of Materials and Equipment for Marine Use’ to reflect the IACS changes.
