ADNOC L&S rolls out AI-powered automated vessel safety monitoring

ADNOC Logistics and Services (ADNOC L&S) has announced that it has deployed a new AI-powered operational safety monitoring system on board 86 vessels, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi-based technology company AIQ.

The SMARTi Intelligent Operational Safety Monitoring system utilises AI algorithms to analyse video streams in real-time, performing more than 1 billion predictions a day and enabling rapid detection and classification of safety behaviour, incidents, and hazardous situations.

The software is capable of processing images with greater than 90% accuracy and is able to detect the absence of personal protective equipment (including helmet, uniform, and life vest), entrance and presence within a restricted area, slip and fall, man overboard and other defined scenarios.

The system can be directly integrated into existing CCTV platforms, with ADNOC L&S set to use the technology to improve safety on its vessels through automated monitoring, detection and reporting of safety protocol violations and incidents.

“The deployment of AIQ’s SMARTi technology on our ships demonstrates our commitment to 100% HSE, as we continue to invest in innovation to optimise our operations and drive further value for our business and customers,” said Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L&S.

“ADNOC L&S is committed to deploying cutting-edge AI-based technologies across our entire business ensuring our vessels are a safe environment for our people.”

Processing of the video streams and the performance of the AI analytics are completed locally, removing any requirement for centralised servers or cloud infrastructure to ensure real-time response capabilities

New AI model updates and configurations can be pushed out remotely, and all video footage and data are archived to facilitate post-incident investigations, compliance audits, and improvement of safety protocols.
