NorthStandard offers FuelEU tools to members with BetterSea partnership

Marine insurer NorthStandard has partnered with digital decarbonisation service provider BetterSea to offer members discounted access to the BetterSea FuelEU Maritime Compliance platform, including its digital support services.

FuelEU Maritime regulations, which came into force on 1 January 2025, require vessels to monitor and report the greenhouse gas (GHG) intensity of energy used on board and meet specific reduction targets.

The BetterSea FuelEU platform offers full digital support for compliance, covering end-to-end data handling, internal and external pooling frameworks, and final pool verification. For the first six months, pooling transaction fees will be waived, with only an administration fee for escrow account setup.

Features include internal and external pooling options, banking and borrowing mechanisms, and automated pool data verification. Each NorthStandard member joining the platform receives up to 30 hours of consultancy on decarbonisation regulations.

“The BetterSea platform provides a comprehensive tool for a seamless transition to FuelEU compliance and offers complete security for sensitive data. Our confidence in its value for shipping is reflected in the exclusive savings we can offer NorthStandard members,” said Mark Smith, NorthStandard’s Loss Prevention Director – Decarbonisation.
