MPA and CMA CGM renew digitalisation MoU

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the CMA CGM Group have renewed and expanded a 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the parties designed to support sustainable shipping and improving maritime digitalisation.

Under the agreement, CMA CGM will increase its fleet under the Singapore Registry of Ships, including four 23,000 TEU LNG-powered vessels. The company has invested nearly US$20 billion in LNG and methanol-powered vessels and aims to have 153 low-carbon energy-capable ships in its fleet by 2029 as part of its Net Zero Carbon target for 2050.

CMA CGM will also register and bunker alternative-fuel vessels under the Singapore flag and participate in fuel trials. The company’s first dual-fuel methanol vessel, CMA CGM Iron, made its maiden call in Singapore in March 2025.

On the digital side, MPA and CMA CGM will explore a series of pilot trials, including an online registry for carbon accounting, and will also propose an implementation plan for ship-to-shore data exchange standards. In addition, CMA CGM says that it intends to work with MPA on cybersecurity initiatives to strengthen digital security in maritime operations.

The partnership will help to boost Singapore’s maritime innovation ecosystem by fostering collaboration between CMA CGM’s innovation arm, ZEBOX Group, and local platforms such as PIER71.

“I am pleased to renew our partnership with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, strengthening Singapore’s position as a key maritime hub for CMA CGM,” said Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the CMA CGM Group.

“Together, we will drive forward innovative initiatives, particularly in the adoption of alternative fuels and digitalisation to enhance efficiency and performance. This collaboration reflects our commitment to leveraging top expertise to build a more resilient and sustainable global trade.”
