Ro-Ro shipping group publishes standards for emissions calculation

A coalition of Ro-Ro shipping companies has published new guidelines for calculating greenhouse gas (GHG) emission intensity, aiming to create a common standard for measuring emissions from Ro-Ro ships such as car carriers.

The Global Ro-Ro Community (GRC), comprising Eastern Car Liner, ‘K’ Line, MOL, NYK, Wallenius Wilhelmsen and ClassNK, developed the guidelines in collaboration with the international non-profit Smart Freight Centre (SFC).

The Deep-sea Ro-Ro Ship Greenhouse Gas Emission Intensity Calculation Methods framework is intended to support accurate Scope 3 emissions reporting and drive decarbonisation in global logistics.

The new methodology aligns with the ISO 14083 standard and the GLEC Framework, and is now available on the SFC website.
