Orca AI has launched Co-Captain, a new real-time collaborative navigation platform designed to allow vessels to share live data and alerts to improve safety and voyage efficiency.
The platform will connect the more than 1,000 vessels equipped with Orca AI systems, sharing verified information on hazards such as dense traffic, severe weather, GNSS interference, and piracy zones.
Alerts are anonymised and distributed to nearby vessels based on route and risk level, the company notes.
“This could very well be the most accurate crowdsourced navigational engine in shipping,” said Yarden Gross, CEO and Co-Founder of Orca AI.
“Every addition to the fleet strengthens that shared awareness, enhancing how ships anticipate risk and support one another. Given that 90% of world trade goes by sea, this kind of collaborative navigation is no longer optional – it’s a safety, environmental and security imperative.”
“The database constantly updates what is happening on global routes, empowering officers to make more resilient navigational decisions. All data is fully anonymised, with only the location and observed conditions reported, ensuring complete privacy.”
Built on a dataset exceeding 100 million nautical miles of voyage data and integrating with weather and regulatory data, Co-Captain will offer real-time notifications specific to each ship’s operational context.
