ABS reports that it has issued approval in principle to Hanwha Ocean for new remote-control functions designed for floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units.
The approval follows design reviews carried out under the ABS Requirements for Autonomous and Remote-Control Functions, with the technology forming part of a wider programme within an Offshore Technology Collaboration Agreement (OTCA).
The OTCA framework covers multiple development tracks in sustainability, digitalisation, artificial intelligence and operational-technology cybersecurity.
ABS said the introduction of remote-control capabilities for FPSO systems supports increased operational transparency through real-time data acquisition, analytics and predictive insights, potentially improving safety and compliance while allowing operators to optimise asset performance.
