V.Group acquires Njord to strengthen decarbonisation options

V.Group reports that it has acquired Njord, a fuel efficiency and decarbonisation company founded by Maersk Tankers, to expand the ship manager’s technical and advisory capabilities in fuel efficiency, emissions reduction and regulatory compliance.

Njord was launched in 2022 by Cargill, Mitsui and Maersk Tankers, following several years of joint work trialling fuel-saving and emissions-reduction technologies across fleets they owned, managed or chartered.

The company was established to help shipowners and operators identify, design and implement energy efficiency measures, supported by performance tracking and access to financing. Services were designed to work across both tramp and liner trades.

Following the acquisition, Njord will become the primary decarbonisation brand within the V. portfolio and will integrate with V.’s wider marine services platform.

“This acquisition accelerates our ambition to become the leading fuel-efficiency and decarbonisation advisor and service provider,” said René Kofod-Olsen, Group CEO of V.Group.

“Njord’s technology integration capabilities combined with our operational expertise means we can now offer shipowners and operators a complete fuel efficiency and decarbonisation ecosystem – from compliance guidance through to the technical systems that make alternative fuels and efficiency measures work in practice.”

“We look forward to welcoming Njord to V. and to continuing the close collaboration with their customers.”

Njord will continue to operate under its own brand within V.Services, with its existing leadership team remaining in place.
