ELCOME reports that it has signed an authorised reseller agreement with Amazon Leo to provide satellite connectivity over the network to the commercial maritime sector.
The agreement will allow ELCOME to offer the low Earth orbit (LEO) service to fleets including merchant shipping, offshore service vessels, and fishing once it is made commercially available. Amazon currently has 180 satellites in low Earth orbit as it continues the process of deploying its 3,236-satellite constellation.
ELCOME says that its maritime service will use the recently announced Amazon Leo Pro and Leo Ultra terminals to connect to the network. The Dubai-based company currently provides connectivity to more than 5,000 vessels and will support the new hardware through its global engineering network and support operations.
“Through this agreement with Amazon Leo, Elcome will provide the connectivity that modern maritime operations demand,” said Trevor Vieweg, Head of Global Business, Amazon Leo.
“Customers on the open seas will have the ability to power critical technology, using our antennas designed to operate seamlessly in challenging maritime environments.”
The agreement follows the recent rebranding of the undertaking to Amazon Leo from Project Kuiper.
