NorthStandard partners with Signol to reduce emissions through crew behaviour

NorthStandard has agreed a partnership with Signol to offer its members discounts on Signol’s crew-led behaviour change software.

Under the two-year deal, Signol will cover onboarding costs and provide preferential rates on its monthly Software as a Service (SaaS) subscription.

The service is designed to encourage seafarers to make fuel-efficient choices during their daily duties. Using existing data and processes, Signol says that the platform has helped crews achieve 3% to 8% reductions in fuel consumption and emissions for shipowners, charterers, and managers.

“This is a highly innovative new benefit for members,” said Mark Smith, Loss Prevention Director – NNE and Decarbonisation at NorthStandard.

“With Signol, a seafarer will see, for example, the positive impact they can have when they shut down an under-utilised auxiliary engine, or focus on keeping the ship within trim parameters. By reinforcing the positive impact of routine, day-to-day tasks that are within the control of crew, Signol helps enhance the fuel saving culture onboard and ultimately drive decarbonisation.”

“When goals are met, successes can be rewarded, for example by funding privileges such as upgraded gym equipment or by making donations to nominated crew charities.”

The partnership is part of a broader effort by NorthStandard to help support sustainability in operations amongst its members and follows the launch of its digital portfolio for vessel safety.
