Western Bulk has entered a partnership with ZeroNorth to implement a voyage optimisation platform across its fleet of approximately 120 vessels. The agreement is designed to provide the dry bulk shipping company with data-driven decision support for its asset-light operating model.
Because a large portion of the Western Bulk fleet consists of single-trip charters, the company says that it required a system that allows for the rapid onboarding and routing of vessels.
The technology integrates naval architecture principles with machine learning to provide fuel modelling and performance analysis that goes beyond standard weather-based routing.

“This partnership follows a long and careful decision process to ensure we selected a solution that truly fits our asset-light, fast-moving operating model. We look forward to developing the partnership further.”
The platform includes End-of-Voyage (EOV) reporting, which provides data on voyage performance and emissions to allow the operator to perform post-voyage analysis and ensure predictable execution across its diverse and changing fleet.
The implementation was completed following a six-week global rollout across five different locations, the partners said.
