German Waterways and Shipping equips new vessels with integrated bridge tech

Scharhörn, the first of three new multipurpose vessels for the German Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV), has successfully completed sea trials and is set for delivery equipped with Integrated Navigation and Bridge Systems (INBS).

The ship is nearing delivery from the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard and will be equipped with six SYNAPSIS NX multifunctional workstations, an autopilot system, and a collection of navigation sensors from Anschütz.

It also features a dynamic positioning system with a motion sensor providing individual roll and pitch data on the control display. An oil spill detection system is integrated with radar via the CAT240 Asterix interface, alongside an interface to the sonar system. An Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is available for planning purposes.

“SYNAPSIS is an efficient, standardised integrated navigation system that we can customise to meet specific customer requirements,” said Philip Kankelfitz, Head of Commercial Sales at Anschütz.

“Its modular architecture ensures straightforward and secure integration at all times, enabling perfect adaptation to the wide range of operations carried out by these ships.”

As the remaining two vessels are completed, the standardised bridge systems will allow for consistent operation across the multipurpose vessels, the company notes.
