ClassNK has launched a digital matching platform, named ClassNK Design Data Marketplace, to promote the sharing and utilisation of three-dimensional (3D) models and design data within the maritime industry.
The platform connects shipyards and design firms that own design assets with software vendors and other maritime service providers.
The marketplace allows stakeholders to search for and compare relevant data and services according to their specific operational needs.
The initiative was developed as part of the Digital Twin Project, a collaborative effort involving shipyards, shipowners, software providers, and classification societies. The project evaluates frameworks for sharing design and operational data, with the classification society assisting in the development of the platform as an impartial entity to ensure a neutral and fair environment for all participants.
Operating as a membership-based closed system, the marketplace provides a legal mechanism for companies to provide services and use data while complying with specific terms of use. The platform defines the responsibilities and permissible uses of design data, enabling members to collaborate on new technologies.
