NYK in strategic framework agreement with Microsoft Japan

NYK has concluded a strategic framework agreement with Microsoft Japan to create new value for the shipping company through collaboration on digital transformation projects.

Under its medium-term management plan Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026, the NYK Group has identified digital transformation as a core strategy for its future business, as a means of promoting management strategy but also as a driving force that creates new value.

The group will focus on several priority areas under the initiative, including the development of foundations that support digital transformation. This will involve developing cloud infrastructure, establishing platforms for data utilisation and generative AI, and strengthening cybersecurity.

Additionally, the company says it will prioritise the development of digitally-supported human resources by formulating organisational initiatives and human resource development programmes for the effective use of generative AI.

The collaboration with Microsoft will drive the improvement of existing businesses through digital technologies, utilising AI agents and an enhanced use of data to transform processes. Furthermore, the company aims to create new business models by promoting initiatives that leverage the expertise and technologies of the group to generate new value originating from the shipping and logistics industries.
