Dassault Systèmes has partnered with marine engineering firm AITAC to improve model-based design and approval using the OCX (Open Class 3D Exchange) open data standard, which replaces traditional 2D structural drawings with interactive 3D models.
Under the official Component Application Architecture partnership, AITAC will lead the development, commercialisation, and deployment of OCX eXchanger, a system enabling the seamless exchange of OCX data within Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
The collaboration is designed to support the shipbuilding sector’s transition towards fully digital, model-based design and classification processes.
“Shipbuilding is rapidly moving toward model-based engineering and model-based approval,” said Jean-Benoît Bensoussan, Marine & Offshore Director, Dassault Systèmes.
“OCX eXchanger represents a strategic capability that helps our customers accelerate digital continuity from design to classification while reducing manual data preparation and improving collaboration across the shipbuilding ecosystem.”
Adoption of the OCX standard is growing industry-wide as a method of 3D model-based approval, allowing shipyards, designers, and classification societies to exchange vessel structural information through a standardised digital format rather than traditional 2D drawings.
The OCX eXchanger system will allow users of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to import, export, and manage OCX-compliant data directly from their digital twin environment.
The technology is designed to accelerate digital continuity from design to classification while reducing manual data preparation across the shipbuilding ecosystem.
“OCX eXchanger for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform closes the gap between 3D design and class approval in a way the industry has long needed,” said Marijan Lorencin, Chief Executive of AITAC.
