Meiji Shipping Group is to deploy FrontM’s INFOTAINMENT system across its fleet to improve ship-shore communication, crew engagement and the distribution of safety, compliance and welfare information.
The Japanese shipping group will initially install three FrontM Loft Kiosks on each vessel, creating an onboard communications network branded as the MMS Channel, with MMS Co, Ltd a ship management company within Meiji Shipping Group.
The touchscreen kiosks are designed to replace traditional noticeboards, circulars and email attachments with digital content, including safety and welfare campaigns, company updates, training material, videos and live broadcasts.
The system will also support surveys, quizzes, digital acknowledgements and crew feedback, while integrated cameras and two-way video conferencing will enable toolbox meetings and direct communication between ship and shore teams.
“Good communication is not only about sharing information, but also about ensuring that it reaches our seafarers in a clear and practical way,” said Capt Ryusuke Yoshigae, President of MMS Co.
“The FrontM Loft Kiosk trial showed that information can be delivered more effectively through an accessible and interactive platform. It also provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen communication between ship and shore while supporting safety, compliance, learning and crew welfare.”
FrontM will also provide a managed content service covering communication planning, editorial calendars, content creation, scheduling, remote publishing and platform monitoring to keep the MMS Channel updated.
“Improved connectivity is creating an important opportunity for shipping companies to rethink how vessels and shore teams communicate and operate as one organisation,” said Kiran Kumar Venkatesh, CEO of FrontM.
