HD KSOE to create Virtual Shipyard with Siemens

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) has signed an agreement with Siemens Digital Industries Software to implement a new system designed to digitally connect the shipbuilding process from design through production, logistics, inspection and sea trials.

The platform will integrate vessel design, production, supply chain management, quality control and maintenance within a single 3D-model-based data environment, allowing consistent information to be shared across each stage of construction.

The technology is intended to provide real-time design updates and production information to shipyard operations and the supply chain, supporting decision-making aimed at reducing schedule delays and quality issues.

HD KSOE also plans to develop what it describes as a ‘Virtual Shipyard’ that mirrors actual shipyard operations, allowing production processes and equipment to be simulated in a virtual environment as a form of digital twin.

“AI is not merely a tool for improving productivity, but a transformative technology that is reshaping how ships are designed, built and operated,” said H.K. Kim, President and CEO of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering.

“By integrating AI, digital twin, and automation technologies into a connected digital shipyard environment, we aim to establish a future-ready model for the shipbuilding industry.”

The company says the platform will ultimately support an autonomous manufacturing system linking every stage of ship construction as it develops AI-powered and autonomous production capabilities.

“As a leader in industrial AI, automation and digital twin software, Siemens is uniquely positioned to help transform how shipyards design, build and sustain the next generation of vessels,” said Tony Hemmelgarn, President and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries Software.
