VSAT roll-out for Fairfield Geotechnologies

Houston-based Fairfield Geotechnologies has implemented Marlink VSAT systems on board two Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic survey vessels operated on behalf of oil & gas industry clients on a global basis, to support survey data transfer operations while at sea.

The service offers guaranteed bandwidth with Committed Information Rates, burstable up to a higher Maximum Information Rate, while wireless internet will also be made available in vessel cabins and communal areas as part of the service, so crew can get online.

The onboard infrastructure will be manged using Marlink’s XChange centralised communications management system, including Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) capabilities to control access for crews via their own laptops and smartphones.

A dual VSAT antenna package has been delivered to the Fairfield ships, with L-band back-up and redundant Below Deck Equipment, including router, switch and modem, also provided to maximise uptime.

“A customised delivery is almost a pre-requisite for networks of this complexity,” said Tore Morten Olsen, President Maritime, Marlink.

“By working closely with Fairfield Geotechnologies, we have developed and implemented a VSAT solution that delivers on their strict quality and availability requirements, ensuring 24/7 access to fast, seamless connectivity for all users on board.”
