Cloud analytics company Spire Global has announced the launch of a new maritime weather forecasting product, the first commercial offering from its Spire Weather division.
Spire Forecast will offer new weather forecasts dedicated to the maritime industry, featuring atmospheric and oceanographic weather attributes including, among others, sea surface temperature, ocean currents, wave height, surface wind, and air temperature. All forecasts will be available on a global basis.
The company says that it intends to eventually expand from this first weather product by integrating the forecasting information into customised offerings for other industry verticals and market segments.
“We created Spire Weather to augment and support the global weather prediction industry, from the private sector to government organisations who provide daily predictive weather information to global businesses and the world,” said John Lusk, GM, Commercial Business Units, Spire Global.
“Our daily collection of 5000 Radio Occultations is a true source of value-added differentiation and provides our customers with the insights they need to address their forecasting challenges.”
The company’s Spire Maritime business, launched in late 2018 to deliver data products based on the processing of global AIS data, has reported 160% year over year revenue growth.
