The IMO has released a new tool for software developers to support their efforts to create systems for the digital exchange of data between vessels and ports during arrival and departure, which is being made available online free of charge.
The IMO Compendium is a reference manual containing a range of data sets as well the structure and relationships between them, which aims to assist IMO Member States in finding the tools to fulfil their mandatory obligations for digital reporting introduced earlier this year.
IMO notes that external agency stakeholders dealing with electronic data exchange in maritime transport have also been involved in promoting harmonisation of these concepts, with the World Customs Organization, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the International Standards Organization having aligned their own data structures with the IMO Compendium.
