Classification Society ClassNK has updated its guidelines for the performance of remote surveys, in line with the increasing demand for remote services due to persistent global travel restrictions.
‘Guidelines for Remote Surveys Ver. 2.0’ now includes a class notation requirement for the ship related to advance preparation for remote surveys, as the class society looks to continue evolving its technology services in line with its R&D roadmap and ‘Digital Grand Design 2030’ programme.
The latest guidelines have been created after examining the application of existing standards during remote surveys, as ClassNK attempts to reach a level of reliability equivalent to conventional witness surveys.
The document describes the types of surveys that can be applied, the types and amounts of information required for remote surveys, and requirements for the use of ICT.
In Version 2.0, ClassNK has also made revisions to clarify guidelines on selection of equipment and recommended communication infrastructure, as well as procedures for crew members to follow during preparation for remote surveys.
The Guidelines for Remote Surveys Ver. 2.0 document is available to download free of charge for registered users of the ClassNK ‘My Page’ service.
