ClassNK releases mobile app for PSC data

Classification society ClassNK has released a free new mobile app to assist vessel operators in improving their ship management systems and PSC performance, called PrimeShip-PSC Intelligence.

The application is a mobile version of the PSC Intelligence for PC, created for ship management companies and released in 2018.

The new application, which has been developed for use by seafarers, enables crew to manually input data from PSC reports on their smartphones and to also convert paper reports captured by their phone camera into digital into data using AI-powered optical character recognition (OCR).

The main PSC report forms within the Tokyo MOU, Paris MOU, USCG, and Black Sea MOU are all supported by the OCR system, ClassNK notes, with other forms to be added over time.

PSC data and information on equipment malfunctions can be shared with land-based colleagues within the app’s chat functionality, so both parties can work together to rectify identified issues.

The software analyses accumulated PSC data from different ship management companies and uses AI technology to create appropriate relevant checklists within the PC application based on typical deficiencies detected and actual results, for continuous improvement. This checklist functionality will be added to the mobile app soon, ClassNK says.
