Polar exploration cruiser to implement remote diagnostics infrastructure

Polar exploration cruise ship Le Commandant Charcot, operated by PONANT, has signed a 10-year service agreement with ABB to provide continuous remote support, diagnostics and condition monitoring of onboard equipment, as well as preventive and planned maintenance services.

The ABB MarineCare services being supplied aim to improve safety, reduce operational, maintenance and administration costs, and maximise vessel uptime by delivering continuous awareness of asset health status to support optimised maintenance and enable resolution of potential issues remotely.

Shore-based support for these vessel systems should prevent failure escalation and reduce the need for unplanned activities, the company says. Eight ABB Ability Collaborative Operations Centers around the world will be available to provide remote support to the vessel.

“At PONANT, we take great pride in allowing our guests to experience the most awe-inspiring destinations on Earth, secure in the knowledge that their safety and the health of the environment are our utmost priorities,” said Mathieu Petiteau, Newbuilding Director, PONANT.

“ABB’s support ensures optimised performance of our advanced ABB technology on a continuous basis, bringing us complete peace of mind and allowing us to focus on delivering a unique travel experience.”
