Dualog upgrades email security system

Norwegian maritime technology company Dualog has launched a new version of its email security gateway, MailDefence, adding a range of fixes and improvements to the system to improve protection against advanced email-based attacks.

The software submits each message sent to a ship to a security check, including scans by multiple antivirus engines, anti-spam scoring mechanisms, email fingerprint analysis, phishing checks and domain sanity checks.

In-built machine learning capabilities are also deployed to reduce spam and other malicious content from being sent to vessels in the first instance.

The launch of the new MailDefense 3.0 includes five main improvements to the existing application, the company says, adding email security statistics through the Dualog Portal, upgraded backend tools, improved zero-day detection, additional forensic capabilities, and real-time spam and phishing blocklists.
