Clarus Networks launches dedicated maritime division

Connectivity company Clarus Networks Group has launched a new dedicated Maritime & Energy division, to provide satcom services, including Starlink, to merchant vessels, cruise ships, ferries and offshore energy.

The Scottish firm has opened its first permanent office in England for the new business unit, which will be led by Cobham SATCOM veteran Chris Schonhut.

“Joining the Clarus team means working with the most powerful connectivity technology available. I’m already hearing feedback from maritime clients on the benefits of superfast connection, including crew welfare, improved comms and collaboration, and enhanced reliability,” said Mr Schonhut.

“Many clients have been surprised at how easy the installation process has been, reducing downtime. In my new role, I’m excited to be providing specialist support for businesses, unifying connectivity systems to support efficient operations at sea.”

Among the company’s existing maritime customers is Hughes Subsea Services, which has installed a LEO broadband system on its offshore vessels. Other clients in the sector include P&O Ferries and Stödig Ship Management.
