Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions begins remote survey project with LR

Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions is to explore the introduction of remote survey capabilities following the signing of a joint development project (JDP) with Lloyd’s Register (LR).

As part of the project, LR will invest in continuous process improvement methodologies at the shipyard to assist Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions in reducing operational down time by implementing new technology systems into survey schedules.

LR’s expansion of its remote capabilities has led to the establishment of its Global Digital Survey Centre (GDSC), which manages remote surveys across the Americas, South Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and Singapore.

The class society says that, where used appropriately, remote surveys can be as effective as in-person surveys but offer greater agility and flexibility for vessels in remote or difficult to access locations.

“This Joint Venture with LR, offering remote surveys for the vessels, we are targeting for more faster and safer drydockings and aligns perfectly with our mission to provide innovative and sustainable, effective solutions to our customers,” said Damir Glavan, Chief Executive Officer at Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions.
