Greek telecoms company OTE Group has announced the sale of its 94.09% holding in its maritime comms division Otesat-Maritel to compatriot Orbyt Global.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Otesat-Maritel provides satellite communication services to the Greek shipping industry and the wider international maritime market, offering Inmarsat, Iridium and VSAT services, as well as integrated IT systems.
The company’s turnover was over €23.37 million for 2023, down slightly from the €23.77 million reported in 2022.
New owner Orbyt Global is also a provider of maritime satcom services to a fleet of more than 6,000 vessels, with offices in Greece, Hamburg and Singapore. It delivers Inmarsat, Iridium and VSAT services, as well as a range of digital systems for vessel navigation and operations.
OTESAT-Maritel’s existing s@tgate communications platform will be upgraded with new capabilities following the integration, while Orbyt Global’s Nexus Shark III platform will adopt some of s@tgate’s features for use by its customers. The company says that its goal is for both platforms to operate in parallel, incorporating the best aspects of the respective technologies.

Orbyt Global was founded in 2021 and pursued a merger with Media Broadcast Satellite (MBS) in 2022 before following that up with the acquisition of the Swedish operations of Telenor Maritime earlier this year. The company has also partnered with FMC GlobalSat to offer Starlink services.
