Flying Ship Company awarded US patent

Flying Ship Company has confirmed that the company has been granted a US patent for its wing-in-ground (WIG) effect vessels for unmanned cargo transportation.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued founder and CEO William Peterson a patent for the technology, titled ‘Payload Transport and Delivery Method, System, and Multi-Platform Unmanned Cargo Delivery Vehicle’.

“Securing this patent is a significant milestone for Flying Ship Company as we continue to develop and deploy transformative technology for global cargo delivery,” said Bill Peterson, Founder and CEO of Flying Ship Company.

“Our uncrewed WIG vessels represent a breakthrough in efficiency and versatility, and this patent underscores our commitment to innovation as we redefine what’s possible in littoral and ship-to-shore logistics.”

Specifically, the patent covers the design and operation of Flying Ship’s vessels, which utilise wing-in-ground effect physics to achieve improved fuel efficiency and speed while maintaining the versatility to operate across a wide range of coastal and littoral environments, including water, ice, and sandbars.

Classified as maritime vehicles, Flying Ships claims that its vessels can operate at a fraction of the cost of aircraft but are ten times faster than conventional ships, while capable of delivering cargo to virtually any coastline to potentially alleviate port congestion.

The company says it now has $200 million in commercial customer commitments as it continues its development.
