A Dynamic Positioning Digital Survey (DPDS) application developed by Kongsberg Marine to support remote annual DP surveys has been granted approval in principle (AIP) by ABS.
DP systems are complex, comprising components like thrusters, propellers, and sensors that ensure precise vessel movement, either along a designated course or in a fixed position despite factors like wind and waves.
The DPDS application continuously gathers data from a vessel’s DP system, allowing annual DP surveys to move from in-person assessments on the vessel in a fixed timeframe to remote analysis onshore across a more flexible timeframe.
The DPDS data evaluation must still be performed by a surveyor trained by Kongsberg.
“We see the maritime industry increasingly adopting data-driven verification for machinery and auxiliary systems, not just DP,” said Erik Korssjøen, Vice President Digital Products at Kongsberg Maritime.
“The industry is maturing and embracing digital transformation, with ABS playing a key role in advancing efficiency and sustainability.”
