Motion Ventures launches $100m maritime tech investment fund

Venture firm Motion Ventures has launched a new US$100 million fund, claimed to be the largest maritime-focused technology fund to date, which will be used to back at least 25 companies involved in the digitalisation and decarbonisation of the global maritime supply chain.

The Singapore-based firm says ‘Fund II’ will deliver investments ranging from $250,000 to $10 million into its chosen companies over the next 18–24 months.

Motion Ventures says it will be expanding its scope to include asset-intensive hardware technologies alongside software-based offerings in response to what it sees as an increasing corporate demand for advancements in sustainability, vessel operations, and port modernisation.

The company has already raised more than half of Fund II’s target and has made initial investments in OceanScore and Fernride, amongst the more than 30 investments completed across its first and second funds.

“We launched Motion Ventures with the belief that maritime is entering a new era—one where technology, capital, and industry collaboration converge to redefine the sector’s trajectory,” said Shaun Hon, Founder and General Partner of Motion Ventures.

“In recent years, we’ve seen digitalisation and decarbonisation shift from ideas to industry imperatives. Fund II goes beyond writing bigger checks; it’s about uniting the right founders, corporate leaders, and strategic allies to accelerate an industry-wide shift, ensuring that solutions can be tested, adopted, and scaled faster than ever before.”
