The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Port of Rotterdam have signed a new cooperation agreement to strengthen the Rotterdam-Singapore Green and Digital Shipping Corridor established in 2022.
Since its inception, 28 partners across the container shipping value chain have joined efforts to deploy sustainable fuels along the 15,000-kilometer route and implement digital technologies to improve efficiency.
The initiative aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions from large container vessels on the corridor by 20-30% by 2030 while promoting global standards for streamlined port calls, goods movement, and paperless transactions.
The two ports have trialled port-to-port data exchange to synchronise vessel arrival and departure timestamps, supporting IMO digitalisation efforts to enhance vessel arrival planning and port operations.
They have also established ship-to-shore data exchange infrastructure for port clearance submissions, reducing manual data entry and minimising errors through automation.
The first phase of trials for global digital standards and solutions began in March 2025, with an enhanced system set for testing later in the year.
“By bringing together parties across the entire value chain, the Rotterdam-Singapore Green & Digital Shipping Corridor has helped to make first, valuable steps towards the decarbonisation of international shipping while also improving efficiency of trade and setting new industry standards,” said Port of Rotterdam CEO, Boudewijn Siemons.
“At the same time, we still have a lot of work ahead of us and we are looking forward to continue our work on this together with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.”
