Singapore’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and maritime AI firm Windward have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on artificial intelligence research for maritime security applications.
The agreement will focus on improving the Singapore Armed Forces’ maritime domain awareness capabilities through the use of AI and digital technologies. It also includes provisions for talent development, with DSTA engineers gaining access to exchange programmes and internships at Windward to support technical skills development.
“This MOU underscores DSTA’s efforts to tap synergies with global partners,” said DSTA’s Group Technology Officer, Cheng Heng Ngom.
“By leveraging our strengths and expertise, we seek to advance AI research and development to strengthen our maritime security capabilities, and protect our sea lines of communication.
Windward will provide support using its maritime AI platform, which combines machine learning and predictive analytics to monitor risks and emerging threats at sea.
