Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has agreed a deal with Kongsberg Maritime for the delivery of integrated technology packages for nine new DP2 shuttle tankers being built for Greek shipowner Tsakos Group.
The vessels will be delivered on bareboat charter to Brazilian energy logistics firm Transpetro and deployed in Brazil’s pre-salt offshore oil fields.
Each tanker will be equipped with a range of systems, including the K-Pos DP2 for station-keeping, the K-Chief integrated automation system, the K-IMS information management system, and the AutoChief 600 propulsion control system.
The tech will all be fully integrated, with the vessels to be constructed at SHI’s shipyard in South Korea ahead of scheduled deliveries beginning in 2027.
