Theyr and University of East London develop dynamic CII optimisation system

Theyr, in collaboration with the University of East London (UEL), has announced the release of a new system designed to dynamically optimise vessel performance against Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) requirements.

The technology builds on Theyr’s existing T.VOS voyage optimisation engine, combining metocean data, vessel hydrodynamic models and algorithms developed with UEL to generate predictive and real-time CII ratings.

Optimisation outputs can be tailored to balance speed, fuel use, safety and emissions within a single computation, providing operators with voyage plans that meet both commercial and environmental objectives.

The dynamic CII system integrates digital twin modelling with live environmental data to deliver continuously updated ratings and route recommendations.

The service is being released in two phases: from August 2025, CII outputs will be provided across all T.VOS optimised routes, followed by a September update that will add a selectable ‘optimal dynamic CII’ routing option.
