AST Reygar adds whole-body vibration monitoring for Workboat Code 3 compliance

AST Reygar reports that it has expanded the capabilities of its BareFLEET Vessel Motion Monitoring System (VMMS) to support compliance with new Whole Body Vibration (WBV) monitoring requirements introduced in the UK under Workboat Code 3.

From December 2026, operators of small commercial and pilot vessels under 24 metres will be required to measure and manage crew exposure to vibration in accordance with updated Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) standards. BareFLEET’s integrated WBV monitoring enables continuous data capture without the need for additional onboard equipment for vessels already fitted with the system.

“The introduction of WBV monitoring under Workboat Code 3 represents a significant step forward in crew welfare and operational safety,” said Chris Huxley-Reynard, Commercial Manager at AST Reygar.

“By integrating this functionality into BareFLEET, we’re helping operators meet these new obligations efficiently, using technology many already have installed.”

The system employs motion sensors and algorithms to quantify vibration exposure through seats and decks, with onboard dashboards providing crews with time-based calculations to help mitigate vibration during operations.

Automated data analysis is available to support fleet-wide compliance reporting and trend evaluation across vessels, routes, and operating conditions.

BareFLEET also supports impact force analysis and motion sickness tracking, both recognised within Workboat Code 3, providing a unified dataset for vessel safety and performance management.
