HGK Shipping of Germany has announced a new collaboration with Cologne-based technology company neuland.ai to accelerate the digital transformation of its inland waterway operations.
The agreement will see Europe’s largest inland shipping company deploy its own in-house AI platform from November, marking a significant step in its strategy to become a fully digital shipping enterprise.
The new corporate AI system, powered by the neuland.ai HUB, will be used to optimise operational processes and support data-driven decision-making.
This will include intelligently connecting internal processes and creating new services based on operational data. The company says it has already implemented a range of digital projects, including remote vessel operations, currently undergoing final approval, and vessel designs aimed at improving the sustainability of inland transport.
“Using AI, we want to intelligently network our internal processes, accelerate data-based decisions and enable new services for our customers,” said Kevin Stepan, the Head of IT Business Partner Management at HGK Shipping.
HGK Shipping operates a fleet of approximately 300 vessels transporting liquid chemicals, gases, dry goods and break-bulk cargo across Europe.
