NAPA and Interoutes have launched a new Expert Route Monitoring service combining digital voyage optimisation with direct human expertise to support more efficient navigation.
The joint system integrates NAPA’s Voyage Optimization platform with Interoutes’ shore-based consultancy, providing captains with real-time route recommendations and weather updates throughout a voyage.
The approach aims to reduce fuel use and emissions while helping crews manage complex weather and routing data.
As part of the service, NAPA receives voyage objectives from the shipping company before Interoutes’ experts prepare optimised plans and forecasts using NAPA’s system. These are then shared directly with the vessel, allowing the captain to communicate with routing specialists for feedback and operational guidance.
Captains have direct access to Interoutes’ team of routing experts who draw on NAPA’s performance models to compare route options and advise on the safest and most efficient passage plans.
The offering has already been trialled with Fortius Ship Management, which employed the service during a 25-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. During the passage the Interoutes team provided 16 tailored voyage plans, supporting the master in navigating barometric lows that developed along the route.
The company says the optimised routing delivered notable fuel savings, and provided welcomed support to masters when managing dynamic conditions.
