Cobham Satcom has agreed a deal with ‘K’ Line RoRo Bulk Ship Management (KRBS) to supply satellite communication antenna systems for more than 100 vessels, supporting the company’s fleetwide upgrade to Inmarsat’s NexusWave connectivity service.
Installations are already underway, with multiple ships now fitted. The two-year implementation programme will see Cobham Satcom provide its 1-metre SAILOR XTR GX-R2 VSAT antennas, designed for Inmarsat Maritime services and compatible with the NexusWave platform.
“We selected Cobham Satcom and Inmarsat Maritime as we believe their advanced antenna technology and satellite services will meet and exceed the high standards expected by our crews and our customers,” the company said, in a statement.
“Once installed, always-on connectivity will enable more efficiency for diverse operations, including port clearance, operational reporting, and crucially, support crew welfare through reliable access to video and internet access to stay in touch with their families.”
‘K’ Line had previously announced in late 2024 that it had agreed a deal with Inmarsat to begin trials of the NexusWave service.
