Lloyd’s Register has rolled out an update to its container stowage offering, introducing new operational tools aimed at reducing container loss while improving vessel utilisation and operational performance.
The updated package combines enhanced BoxMax and Roll Design Assessment notations with the latest versions of LashRightUX and the new RollRight digital platform. Together, the tools are designed to help operators optimise loading plans and manage rolling risks more effectively as container vessels continue to increase in size.
According to the World Shipping Council, 576 containers were lost at sea in 2024, more than double the figure reported the previous year. LR says that its latest improvements address these risks through better motion modelling, faster calculations and ship-specific roll management.
The updated BoxMax notation introduces more detailed motion modelling and new algorithms to calculate safe stack loads, allowing vessels to carry increased cargo. The RDA notation and RollRight system provide crews with real-time insight into rolling risks based on actual sea states, to provide early warnings and support corrective actions linked to synchronous and parametric rolling.
LashRightUX has also been updated with improved visualisation tools to simplify stowage analysis and collaboration.
In parallel, LR says that it is also leading the creation of the Lashing Exchange Format Consortium to standardise the exchange of container securing data across the industry.
