Columbia Group creates Head of AI role

Columbia Group has appointed Christina Orfanidou as its new Head of AI to lead the adoption of artificial intelligence across its maritime operations.

Ms Orfanidou, who previously served as Head of AI Services at Deloitte Cyprus, will oversee the company’s strategy for using technology to modernise workflows and improve productivity.

The appointment is intended to drive efficiency in internal operations, such as reducing the time required for document production and automating repetitive office tasks.

Ms Orfanidou plans to establish an ‘AI factory’ within the company to develop customised tools in collaboration with individual business units, ensuring the technology is integrated directly into maritime workflows.

Initial projects will include internal knowledge management systems and modernised crewing assignment tools.

“AI is not about technology for technology’s sake,” Ms Orfanidou said.

“At Columbia Group, we see AI as a productivity and empowerment tool – one that supports our people, addresses real operational challenges, and helps modernise shipping for the next generation of talent.”
