Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA) and Wärtsilä have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on a framework for digitalisation and smart port systems.
The agreement, which covers an initial five-year term, aims to leverage technology to improve training outcomes and operational efficiency within the UAE maritime sector.
The Maritime Sustainability Research Centre Abu Dhabi (MSRCAD) will provide advisory support for the project. Wärtsilä will work with the centre on joint initiatives that may eventually expand to other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
“The partnership aims to yield significant environmental benefits, including improved training outcomes, enhanced operational efficiency, and progress towards decarbonisation goals across the UAE maritime sector,” said Dr Yasser Al Wahedi, President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy.
The collaboration focuses on integrating smart technology and advanced training to support energy-efficient operations in maritime.
The project is currently in the initial implementation phase, with both organisations identifying specific joint research and digital development targets for the first year of the agreement.
