Port of Miami implements cloud terminal operating system

Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company (POMTOC) has completed the implementation of a new cloud-based terminal operating system from Tideworks Technology, designed to support the modernisation of the terminal and improve operational reliability at the Florida cargo gateway.

The deployment of the Mainsail 10 and Spinnaker terminal operating system (TOS) applications utilised a flexible integration framework with standardised Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), allowing the terminal to exchange data with third-party systems, terminal equipment, and partner platforms.

Hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the technology uses a cloud-based subscription model to improve data security and reduce the requirement for on-site infrastructure, allowing the terminal team to focus on daily operations.

The new systems integrate with existing Tideworks tools at the facility, including GateVision, the gate operating system, and EDI Porter, an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) management tool.

“This go-live represents a significant milestone in our ongoing terminal modernisation strategy and underscores our commitment to serving as a reliable trade gateway,” said Gerard van den Heuvel, Chief Executive Officer of POMTOC.

Looking ahead, POMTOC says that it also plans to expand its modernisation efforts with the implementation of the Tideworks Traffic Control equipment execution system to streamline container handling and reduce unproductive moves.
