Ozellar Marine reports that it has begun testing an expanded hybrid Low Earth Orbit (LEO) configuration on one of its vessels, combining OneWeb and Starlink with Geostationary Orbit (GEO) services to maximise its connectivity capabilities.
The company manages approximately 15 vessels, which have all previously deployed a combination of Fleet Xpress, Ku-band, and Starlink services managed centrally through the Infinity platform from Navarino.
“At the core of our setup is the ability to manage everything independently,” said Murtuza Shabbir, Assistant Technical Manager at Ozellar Marine.
“With Infinity, we can monitor traffic, adjust policies, and roll out changes across the fleet quickly, without relying on external support.”
“We see connectivity as a hybrid mix of technologies rather than a single tool. The key is finding the right balance for each vessel and trading pattern.”
The company is currently evaluating the different LEO services to see how it can best complement its GEO connectivity. While early trials have demonstrated high-speed performance, Mr Shabbir notes that the company continues to assess regional coverage considerations to ensure reliability across different trading patterns.
The company has also recently revised its on board internet usage policies following feedback from its crew. Using the management tools within the Infinity platform, it introduced structured data allowances tailored to different ranks onboard, which it says has improved accessibility for staff while maintaining overall network performance.
