Busan Port Authority (BPA) and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency have partnered to launch the K-Maritime AI Belt Establishment Strategy, an initiative designed to foster a national maritime artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
The project aims to improve competitiveness by integrating AI technology across all areas of the maritime sector, including ports and shipbuilding, with Busan serving as the central hub.
The scope of the research includes identifying promising AI projects and creating strategies for infrastructure construction, talent cultivation, and startup support.
Within the port sector, the initiative will link directly with the Busan Port AI Transformation Plan established by BPA in February. Primary objectives involve the development and commercialisation of physical AI technologies tailored for Busan Port, alongside designing an implementation system aligned with national AI policies.
Following the research phase, BPA and the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency plan to secure budgets, train professionals, and build an industry-academia-research cooperation framework.
