Inmarsat Maritime and South Korean telecommunications provider SK telink have agreed a deal to expand deployment of the NexusWave connectivity service among South Korean shipping companies.
The agreement covers NexusWave implementation across car carriers, container ships, VLCCs and other vessel types operated by companies including HMM and SINOKOR. The two companies have already worked together since 2007.
NexusWave uses multiple network underlays in a bonded service and is designed to maintain connectivity while managing the availability of individual networks according to local requirements.
The service is intended to support cloud applications, remote technical support, cybersecurity and vessel performance monitoring.
“Connectivity has become fundamental to the safe, efficient and competitive operation of a modern fleet,” said Shin-Yong Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of Satellite Business Division, SK telink.
The planned integration of the ViaSat-3 service is expected to increase capacity available to NexusWave customers operating across the region, Inmarsat added.
